WWOOF is a worldwide organization that helps link volunteers with organic farmers. One of the main missions of WWOOF is to help people share sustainable ways of living. The Taking WWOOF Forward platform is a modern way for volunteers and farmers to meet and coordinate. The platform helps coordinators in WWOOF organizations to manage the often large networks of people. The idea to create a platform that can be used by many WWOOF organizations was sparked by Jandi, a Swedish WWOOF Coordinator and Jonas, administrator for the Taking WWOOF Forward platform. The ambition from the start was to create a platform that could be used by many WWOOF organizations. All WWOOF organizations that use the platform collectively benefit from the development efforts of one platform. This is still the idea today. |
The platform is made to work well for three special groups of users: WWOOFers (volunteers), hosts and coordinators. WWOOFers register on the website and create their own profile which among other things includes information about them, photos from their WWOOFing experiences and a history of where they have been WWOOFing. Hosts have a special profile in which they can describe themselves and the kind of work they need help with. A neat function is the recommendation system which lets WWOOFers recommend hosts. Coordinators are the Administrators of the website. They can change all content and add any language they want. The platform also provides great ways to manage users such as an email function in which all WWOOFers and hosts can be contacted through email.
